Hi everyone,

Welcome to another edition of my intermittent newsletter :)

Lukas Grant - "Apartment 43" comes out next week

This past year, I've been producing and recording an artist from Ottawa named Lukas Grant. Well, the album is done, it's called "Apartment 43", and it comes out on August 16th (that's next Friday). There will be a CD release show at Irene's, in Ottawa, featuring a one-off reunion of Jacob Two-Two, one of my favourite Ottawa bands.

You can hear the first single, "Choice", at this link, and also purchase the track if you're so inclined. The full album should be online on or around the release date, or you can pick up a physical copy at one of Lukas' shows.

Music licensing guest blogs and forum

I've been an occasional contributor to the website HowToLicenseYourMusic.com, and you can read a bunch of the guest blogs I've written here. I'll also be making sure to hang around their new forum and answer questions as often as I can.

If you're a musician who is interested in learning about music licensing, you can buy the course I co-authored on this page

Don't forget about Critter Crunch!

You can buy it on Steam or at the Apple app store. It's a fun puzzle game. It's full of music I composed.

Happy summer,

Monday, 17 Dec., 2012 @4:28 p.m.

"Where has Aaron been?", you may have been asking yourself. Or, you may have been concerned with other things. Regardless, I am here to answer the question.

Eleanore Altman - Biologic available on iTunes

First off, the album I started recording exactly 2 years ago is now available! My work on Eleanore Altman's "Biologic" was finished up this past summer, and after artwork and pressing, it is now available for purchase. Click here to buy on iTunes. Hard copies are currently available only from Eleanore in person. If you really really need one, drop her a line on Facebook and I'm sure arrangements can be made.

I co-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the album. I also played all the guitars, sang backup, played bass, and did some other stuff as required (synths, shakers, etc). We recruited my good friend Dan Weaver to play drums. There are also a bunch of amazing guest appearances on the album, including opera singers Chantale Nurse and Johanne Patry, NYC-based violinist Linda Rosenthal, and Montreal trumpeter extraordinaire Ken Milkman. Eleanore plays a lovingly maintained 1925 Steinway Model A piano. You can stream the first 2 songs, "Camera Shy" and "Biologic", at Eleanore's Reverbnation page.

I did an audio course!

As some of you know, I've been making a bunch of forays into the world of music licensing the last few years. Over the summer, music licensing guru Aaron Davison got in touch with me to collaborate on an audio course about licensing music through stock libraries. For the uninitiated, stock music libraries are collections of music that people search through when they're looking for underscore for their multimedia projects. They are the reason you are unwittingly hearing my music sometimes when you watch TV.

If you're interested in this sort of stuff yourself, you can buy the course on this page. It's on sale till December 24. You can check out some blog posts and interviews I've done on the topic here, here, here, and here.

If you want to get a crazy deal, the course is currently being sold in a bundle with a bunch of other music licensing educational products. The discounted bundle goes up in price every day until Christmas, and then ceases to exist. Here's the link.

Critter Crunch available for Mac and PC on Steam

A while back, I did the music for the PSN version of Critter Crunch, the breakout indie release from CAPY. Well, the delightful hand-animated puzzle game is now available for Mac and PC, containing the same heaping servings of my strange attempts at island-influenced music, as well as rainbow barf. You can get it at the STEAM online store.

New Lukas Grant album

I'm co-producing, co-engineering, and mixing the new Lukas Grant record. Lukas is a singer/songwriter from Ottawa, ON. If you can believe it, I used to teach him guitar almost 15 years ago, so these things really do come full circle. You can check out some photos from the sessions here, and listen to an older tune from Lukas here.

If you want to keep up with my day-to-day ramblings, you will find me most often these days on Twitter and Facebook.

Have a great holiday!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thursday, 1 Dec., 2009 @12:10 p.m.

Thursday, 17 Sept., 2009 @12:44 p.m.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick reminder in case you haven't downloaded your two free songs yet. They will be up for 6 more days at my ReverbNation page. Get "Worth Nothing" by clicking on the banner that says "Download free exclusive music from this artist", and get "James" by signing up for the e-mail newsletter, after which the track will become available to you as a fan-exclusive download.

"Worth Nothing" can always be purchased at my online store (it's on the Unreleased Recordings CD) - but this full-band live version of "James" is not available for sale or download anywhere else currently, so get it while you can!

Thursday, 20 Aug., 2009 @12:02 p.m.

I've dusted off a recording I did a couple years ago, mastered it, and decided to offer it for free - but just to my newsletter subscribers.  Here's how to get it:

- Click here to sign up for my newsletter
- Head to reverbnation.com/aaronsaloman, look for the song that says "Fan Exclusive" in my song list
- download and enjoy!

The song is "James", a tune I wrote a while back.  This version is cool because it's the only time I've recorded it with other musicians.  The recording was done the old-fashioned way, live to 2-track in a studio.  For those of you who aren't musicians, most recordings these days are recorded so that each instrument is on a separate track for the volumes to be adjusted ("mixed") later on.  This recording was made the way recordings were in earlier times, with the whole band playing live and the recording going directly into it's final form with no volume adjustments made to the individual instruments afterwards.  Here are the personnel on this song:

Aaron Saloman - vocals, guitar / Geoff Sweetland - bass, vocals / Alejo Planchart - rhodes / Nate Burkhardt - hand drums / Chris Johnson - percussion / Produced by Frankie Price, engineered and mixed by Steve Yonkin, mastered by Aaron Saloman

If you do a Google search on some of those people, you'll find that they're playing in amazing bands or making their own music in all sorts or styles across the US.  It's not often you have a group like that lending their talents to your music.

Enjoy the song and let me know what you think!

Tuesday, 30 Jun., 2009 @10:39 a.m.

Just a quick note to let you know that you can get a free, exclusive download of my song "Worth Nothing" by clicking here! This will only be for a limited time, so get it while you can.

Tuesday, 8 Jun., 2009 @11:08 a.m.

My music was used on OutTV's "Chris and John to the Rescue". Check it out!

Also, I'll be playing bass/singing backup for Eleanore Altman again this year at Maison de la Culture de Waterloo on June 21 in Waterloo, Quebec. Head to the shows section for details.

Tuesday, 29 Sep., 2006 @1:02 a.m.

Well this sucks.

My uncle, Bruno Mambella, died in a car accident on the 401 last week.

Bruno was a musician and live sound engineer. His main gigs included work with Holly Cole, Kim Mitchell, and Tom Cochrane, among others. Over the course of his career, he worked with hundreds of bands, and was one of the most likeable people in music. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

People are sharing their memories over at Kim Mitchell's message board.

Tuesday, 16 Jul., 2006 @1:05 a.m.

So I'm heading into the "studio" tomorrow (well, later this morning actually) to record a live acoustic CD. When I say "studio" I actually mean my good friend Alejo Planchart's house. Here's what I'm thinking:

- I'm playing so many solo acoustic shows, but I only have rock records for people to buy . . . why not have an acoustic CD to sell at these shows?

- There's a real push right now to have more traditional, homemade stuff, whether it's food or art or furniture or anything. Why not try this with an album? I'll record it at my friend's house, I'll mix it myself, I'll do the artwork myself, press it myself, etc. If Tom Green can do a show from his living room, why can't I do an album from a living room and mix it in my bedroom? It won't be shrink-wrapped, and may not look as pretty as the stuff I've had pressed, but it will certainly be more personal . . . I will be hand-pressing and assembling each copy.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the session. I hope it turns out well, and I'll let you know when you can order it from the website. The CD will debut at Lumina Resort in northern Ontario next week.

Tuesday, 9 Jul., 2006 @2:22 a.m.

Not too much going on lately. Tyler Kealey and I did a workshop at Stittsville's Sacred Heart High School in March. After that, my time has been spent going nuts with school projects and finals. Tonight, I sit enjoying some aged cheddar and Buzzards Bay Golden Ale, celebrating the end of finals and trying to be sleepy enough to go to bed.

I have a big show on Canada Day playing guitar for Tallimar. I don't know all the details yet, but I'll let you know. Other than that, I'm hoping to do some writing and recording over the summer, and play a couple shows when I have a chance. And I'm getting married in August!

See you soon. Watch for some picture updates over the next couple weeks.

Wednesday, 12 Jan. 2005 @11:45 a.m.

Hey everyone,

The show with Tyler Kealey went great. We had a full house, and had a great time performing together. Thanks so much to everyone who came out!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years,

Wednesday, 8 Dec. 2004 @2:57 p.m.

With school, I don't have much time to perform these days, but I've managed to cram in a couple things while I'm in Ottawa over Christmas. I'll be doing a show with my good friend Tyler Kealey, an amazing piano player. Tyler and I will be trading off songs and performing together in an informal evening of acoustic music. We'll both have our new CD's on hand as well. This show is at Rasputin's, a small folk club that seats only 40 people. It will sell out, so reserve your tickets now! Go to the shows section of the site for all the details.

I'll also be doing some TV appearances in Ottawa to promote that show. Again, go to the shows section for dates and times. Be sure to tune in!

See you soon,

Monday, 6 Dec. 2004 @2:30 p.m.

I've been busy re-recording the "No Reason" EP. Since Berklee does not allow the release of anything recorded in their studios, I've re-hired the same personnel, and re-recorded the tunes at a small local studio in Boston owned by my bass player, Geoff Sweetland. The final version of the CD should be ready in a couple weeks. Be sure to order one!

Hey everyone,

Hope you all had a great Canada Day. Lots of news for you:

I've been playing guitar with a blues band called Pentagon. We won a competition on Saturday, so now the band is opening up Bluesfest at 5:30 p.m. this Friday (July 6th). So far, I'm playing three shows at this year's Bluesfest :) Crazy, but fun.

The showcase schedule for Capital Music Conference has been moved around a bit. The Aaron Saloman showcase is now at 8:30 p.m. (still July 15th). The Tallimar showcase is now at 6:00 p.m. (again, July 15th). For a complete schedule of showcasing acts at this year's conference, click here.

Capital Music Conference passes include a pass to Bluesfest, so you can attend all this stuff without paying any more than a regular Bluesfest pass. To order your CMC/Bluesfest pass, with no surcharges, click here.

Hopefully I'll be seeing you quite a bit this week,

Tuesday, 19 Jun. 2001 @2:48 a.m.

Good day,

I'm sitting here eating cottage cheese at almost 3 a.m. I was in the studio tonight doing some guitar and bass for Tallimar, a band I've been in for years with my friend James Blondeau. I'll be going in again tomorrow to do some vocals.

The CD release party was lots of fun. Many thanks to everyone who was able to make it out.

I've found out the details about my Capital Music Conference showcase. I'll be playing at the Bluesfest site, on the CMC stage, Sunday July 15 at 8 p.m. I'll have my band, Andrew and Andy, playing with me for this show. Watch the Capital Music Conference website for details on how/where to buy tickets for the conference.

Hey everyone,

The CD release party is in two days! This is going to be an awesome show, I hope you can all make it. Sarah Sedgman will be opening, with our good friend Colin Mills backing her up on guitar. There's some media features leading up to the show, check out the shows section for the TV appearances. Also, listen to 101.1 X-FM on Wednesday at 9 p.m., and pick up the Ottawa Citizen for an article, probably on Thursday.

See you on Thursday,

Hey everyone,

The CD has been out for a few weeks and is selling briskly. X-FM, in Ottawa, has been playing it, and some internet radio stations such as M4Radio and The Audio Realm have also added it to their playlists. If you live in Ottawa (or even if you don't), and would like to request the title track, "Muse's Whip", on X-FM, you can do so here.

I have a CD release party coming up on June 7th. It's going to be held at Climax (which used to be called Molly McGuire's) in Ottawa, and it'll be a great show. I'll be playing with Andrew and Andy, my amazing band, and we're going to have Tyler Kealey, keyboardist for The J.W. Jones Band, join us on a few songs. Opening the evening will be Sarah Sedgman. This will be a show not to miss :)

I've also been selected to showcase at this year's Capital Music Conference, which will be held in conjunction with Bluesfest on July 13-15, 2001. More details to come on this show. Sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of this page, you know you want to . . .

Happy Belated Mothers' Day,

Hope you all had a good St. Patrick's Day. It seems I'm always writing these news bits in the middle of the night.

The CD is back from mastering, and will be released in a couple weeks. In the meantime, aaronmusic.com is pleased to offer you a special free download of the first track, "Alone in Your Song". Listen to it here weeks before it's released! Just go to the "Music" section for the download. Be sure to e-mail me with your thoughts.

Enjoy the song,

We finished recording and mixing the new EP, tentatively titled "Muse's Whip". We did three songs, and had a great time. Many episodes of PINGU were watched at mealtime, and several gallons of water were consumed. Expect a release sometime in late March.

Head over to the 'Photos' section to check out some photos from our week in the studio. It's the next best thing to being there!

I'm going to bed now.

I played a very cool show with Michaela Foster-Marsh last night. We ended up alternating sets every few songs, making for an interesting evening of music.

I head into the studio tomorrow to start recording. I'll be sure to put some pics and anecdotes from the sessions up on the site next week.

The show on the 27th was really fun, thanks to everyone who came out. My band consisted of Andrew Lamarche on drums and Andy Graham on bass. Life doesn't get much better than playing with those two guys :)

I'll be doing some guitar work for Michaela Foster-Marsh at Barrymore's tomorrow as part of the Ottawa Songwriters United show. I'll also be opening for Michaela at the Nepean Sailing Club the following Friday. Check the "Shows" section for details.

Hope you're all doing well,
